An out-of-control motorcycle crashed into a pond while trying to make a turn at a junction.

CCTV footage shows the two-wheeler approaching the crossing when it accelerated towards the ditch and plunged into the water in Pathum Thani province, Thailand, on January 31.

The motorist said his brakes had failed when he reached the area and was seen climbing up the banks moments later.

Resident Amornthep Pinkeaw, whose home security camera recorded the crash, said: ‘It happened in front of my house. He had an issue with his brakes and was slightly injured as a result.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
