A distracted motorcycle rider crashed into an orange street cone when he checked his phone.

The man turned out from a driveway and rode on the road edge while taking a quick look on his device but hit the cones in Chonburi, Thailand on September 5.

CCTV footage shows the motorist falling off the two-wheeler. He did not have any helmet on but was not seriously hurt as he was riding slowly.

Thanawat, the house owner whose security cameras recorded the crash, said: ‘It is never a good idea to check your phone while on the road. It's also illegal, so this crash was all his own fault.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
