A mechanic was rescued by Good Samaritans who lifted a heavy lorry that was pressing on his back.

The dramatic scene caught on surveillance camera footage in the city of Chongqing, in China, showed the man repairing a damaged lorry on March 1.

But just seconds later he can be seen getting trapped when a carjack he used to lift the three-tonne lorry off the ground suddenly slipped causing the vehicle to drop on his back.

However, a group of bystanders passing by witnessed the incident and promptly came to his aid, assisting him in freeing himself from under the heavy lorry.

In the clip, they can be heard saying: 'Hurry up and help! Hurryup!'

One of the men, later told Chinese media: 'At that moment, I was holding a hoe, getting ready to go to the field.

'Fortunately, a few of us happened to pass by, and we worked together to lift the vehicle instantly, thus avoiding a life-threatening situation.

'The mechanic suffered only minor injuries and was otherwise unarmed.'
