On March 11th, in Loudi, Hunan Province, a high school assembly shocked onlookers as a staff member smashed several mobile phones in front of students.

Footage from the scene shows the school staff member wielding a hammer, striking multiple phones before tossing them into a nearby bucket of water. A crowd of students stood beneath the stands, watching it.

The following day, a school official defended the action, stating that the phones were already damaged or malfunctioned before being smashed and that both students and parents had consented to the act.

When questioned about the purpose of the demonstration, the official explained, "we're setting an example for everyone. We want to remind students that phones are not allowed on campus." The school had previously sent letters to parents and conducted seminars on the issue. Additionally, they implemented daily security checks at the school gates to detect any unauthorized phones.

The school's approach has sparked a debate online. While some support the move, arguing that it reinforces discipline and prevents distraction from studies, others criticize it as excessive and potentially harmful to students' mental well-being, suggesting that more nuanced approaches to education may be more effective.
