A loyal male goose fiercely opposed his owner's attempts to bury his dead mate in northern China.

The video was filmed in Tongchuan City in Shaanxi Province on March 10.

A dog invaded a farmer's yard and attacked a female goose, prompting the male goose to bravely intervene and confront the dog to protect its companion. Despite the dog being eventually driven away, the bitten goose tragically succumbed to its injuries.

Upon discovering the lifeless body of the goose, the male goose stood guard nearby, resisting the owner's efforts to bury its fallen mate.

According to the owner, the deceased goose was the mate of the courageous male goose, who had left home briefly only to return to the heartbreaking scene.

Geese have historically symbolized fidelity due to their strict monogamy, often resorting to extreme measures such as refusing to eat or drink when one partner passes away. This tradition, revered in ancient weddings, underscores the profound bond shared by geese and is still observed in some regions of southern China.

3月10日，陕西铜川，一只野狗闯入了农户院子里，袭击了一只鹅，另外一只鹅看到后勇敢地冲了过去，与野狗展开了对峙，极力去保护自己的同伴。几经周折后，野狗终被驱离院子，但因为伤势过重，被咬的大鹅不幸死去。
主人回家后看到被咬死的鹅躺在地上，另一只鹅守护在一旁，眼睛里充满了悲伤。当主人决定把死去的大鹅埋葬时，另一只鹅又极力地去进行干扰，它不想自己的同伴离它而去，意欲阻止主人的行为。
据主人介绍，那只死去的大鹅是只母鹅，正是这只勇敢的公鹅的老婆。当天她刚离开家出去一会儿，回来就看到母鹅不知被什么动物要死了，调取监控才发现肇事者是一只野狗，同时她也看到了公鹅的勇敢和忠贞。
鹅在古代被人们认为是忠贞的象征，因为它是唯一执行一夫一妻伴侣制度的禽类，若一方死亡另一方就会不吃不喝，甚至一意殉情。因为鹅的生死相随的忠贞之情，在古代婚礼之中常以大雁为媒，大雁还必须是一对，象征夫妻恩爱不疑。如今，我国江南一些地区还盛行这种送雁的风俗，每年端午女婿上门时都要带大鹅，不然丈母娘就不让进门。
