This is the heartwarming moment a boyfriend surprises his partner with an engagement proposal - pretending to break down on a dark country road in the middle of nowhere.

Mon Joshua Pagsisihan, 27, stopped the car with Sheila Mae Asugao, 28, in the passenger seat at a spooky isolated location after attending a church mass in Bulacan, the Philippines, on December 21.

Footage shows Mon running to the front of the vehicle and crouching down to check under the engine like there was a problem with the vehicle.

He asked Sheila to join him but then kneeling on one knee, he showed the ring with a smile to his confused girlfriend.

Sheila then immediately said yes and embraced her fiance.

Mon said: 'I wanted to propose in the church, but it would have been inconvenient, so I chose to propose on our way to the resort where there would be no one passing by.'

The couple celebrated their 11th year together on the day of the proposal. They informed their parents about the surprise engagement 10 days later.
