Teenage girl with cerebral palsy smiles through sports day race with mother's support in China
A 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy smiled through a sports day race with her mother's support in southern China.
The heartwarming video was filmed Chongqing on March 25.
At the Spring Sports Day of Fuyao Experimental School in Wansheng Economic Development Zone, a girl named Li Wenya, accompanied by her mother and cheered on by classmates, smiled as she completed the 40-metre run.
Li, who suffers from cerebral palsy, usually relies on assistive devices to walk. This time, the little girl decided to challenge herself, casting aside her walking aid, solely to fulfill her dream of running.
Principal Liu Ke of Fuyao Experimental School in Wansheng Economic Development Zone explained: "The 40-metre track is divided into two sections. In the first section, she used an assistive device to run, and in the second section, she abandoned it and relied on herself. When she reached the finish line, everyone cheered with excitement.
"The purpose of this is to serve as encouragement, hoping that all teachers and students in the school can be fearless and optimistic like little Ya, possessing the spirit of self-challenge."
The video was provided by local media with permission.
