On April 3rd, in Nanchang, southern China, the fish in QingShan Lake appeared restless. Videos captured by eyewitnesses show fish continuously leaping out of the water in a certain area of the lake.

According to a staff member from the Lake Management Department of the QingShan Lake Scenic Area, this phenomenon is not uncommon and is considered normal. Fish jumping out of the water mainly occurs due to two reasons: the introduction of fresh water and continuous heavy rainfall.

He explained that in the video, there is a black pipeline on the left side of the lake, which brings fresh water from the northern branch of the Yubai River into QingShan Lake. As long as there is inflow of fresh water, enhancing the water's flow and oxygen content, the fish tend to swim against the current, gather in the direction of the water flow, and when the fish density increases, they leap out of the water. "In addition, with the continuous heavy rainfall during this period, the water becomes depleted of oxygen, causing the fish to surface. In previous years, during this season and in thunderstorm weather, fish groups have exhibited similar behavior," the staff member stated.

The video was provided with permission from local media.
