Tourists capture amazing tiger footage
A dramatic video has been posted online showing a tiger attacking a wild boar in Jim Corbett National Park, India - the same park from which a tiger has escaped and killed 10 people in six weeks, including one on Sunday.
The Howells family from Guildford, Surrey (UK) were hoping to take some good wildlife photos on their three day safari in Uttarakhand state but didn't expect to come quite so close to one of nature’s greatest predators.
The video shows a group of safari vehicles tracking a large tiger. Suddenly, the big cat makes a dash towards thick bushes. The vehicles follow to find the tiger savaging a large wild boar. After a lengthy struggle, the boar manages to free itself from the jaws of the tiger and get to its feet, much to the astonishment of cameraman Mark Howells.
"The boar escaped at speed and the tiger came back out onto the road," Howells explained.
"We left at that point as we were in an open jeep and didn't fancy being the tiger’s next choice of meal!”
Reports that a killer female tiger is on the loose from the park have been circulating since December 29th when a 65-year-old man was mauled in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh state.
