The historic centre of Bruges was acknowledged as a World Heritage Site on November 30th 2000. The Beguinage and the Belfry had already been included in the list in 1998 and 1999 respectively.
In 2009 the Procession of the Holy Blood was recognized as Immaterial World Heritage.

Brugge is an outstanding example of a medieval historic settlement, which has maintained its historic fabric as this has evolved over the centuries, and where original Gothic constructions form part of the town's identity. As one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe, Brugge developed cultural links to different parts of the world. It is closely associated with the school of Flemish Primitive painting.

Everyone, who visites Bruges, the Venice of the North, is sure to make a boat-trip on its famous canals. Boat-trips take about 30 minutes and show beautifull places that you can only see by boat.
