21:50 hrs. Northumberland County Communications Center dispatched a Commercial Structure fire at Penn Jersey Food Mart, 314 - 316 North Shamokin Street, Shamokin, Pa then quickly upgraded it to a 2nd alarm Commercial Building fire.
First in units found heavy smoke pushing from the “AD” corner between the 1st and 2nd divisions.
Fire fighters attempted to make an aggressive attack including cracking the roof as the structure started to fail and ended up pulling back mounting an external operation that pressed 5 truck companies into service with master streams. The 3rd floor eventually collapsed approximately 30 minutes in this event.
Two firefighters were evaluated and treated on scene.
26 Apparatus from four counties responded to this incident including Columbia, Montour, Northumberland and Schuylkill Counties.
