Impressive footage has emerged of a closeup encounter with an elephant snapping a tree at a reserve in South Africa.

The encounter happened at Simbambili Lodge in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa, on September 25.

Explains the filmer: "The elephants started invading the unfenced camp. Guest had a golden opportunity to film this rare sighting from an elevated walkway inside the Safari Lodge. It's not everyday you get elephants in the camps."

Later in the video, a ranger can be seen trying to coax the elephant. "The ranger did his best and shouted at the rlephant but it did not have much affect," he explains.

"A common practice is to clap your hands as well as making a noise to chase the "ellies" out but this elephant already made his mind up."
