A man miraculously escaped serious injury last Sunday when he was swept off a bridge by massive waves in the Bahamas.

A dramatic video of the incident showed Stephen Higgs climbing on rocks next to the Glass Window Bridge when he was struck by two waves.

When the first wave drenched him, Higgs tried run to safety but was hit by an even bigger wall of white water, which carried him off the rocks and over the other side of the bridge.

He was found on the rocks below with a broken arm and covered in deep lacerations.

Police helped the bloodied man to the top where his wife was waiting for him and took him to a local hospital.

The bridge was closed after strong winds and waves reaching 40ft were forecast.

March 4, 2018, we decided to go for a drive and checkout the waves at the glass window bridge in Eleuthera bahamas. we parked in a safe spot, and suddenly this man (Steven Higgs from Spanish Wells,) starts to walk down towards where the waves had been crossing the road. he was trying to help the lady in the white car cross the bridge by checking the timing of the waves. Suddenly he climbed onto the rocks and a big wave came. he was able to hold on and got drenched. he tried to run to safety, but another bigger wave came and this one swept him off the rocks, onto and across the road and onto the coral on the other side of the road. it all happened very fast. we weren't sure at first where he went, but he was no long on the rocks. so i got out of the car while wayne was videotaping and found a man covered in blood climbing up the coral for a place to sit. at this point he had lost his hat his glasses, and his shoes, and his socks were only partially on. he sat down, and called for someone to help him. so i climbed over the railing and clambered down the coral while wearing hi heels, and found him covered in blood, his wrist slightly crooked and bleeding profuciously from his lower leg. i took off my t-shirt and wrapped it around his leg and kept pressure to stop the bleeding. i yelled up for someone to call for help, and a jeep with two officers eventually showed up and came down to assist. another gentlemen came down and offered his tie to tie up my t-shirt in place. Mr. Higgs realized how lucky he was. He kept repeating "that was stupid, and i knew better". Eventually the officer, the gentlemen who offered his tie and myself help Mr. Higgs up to the road and he was transported to the lower bogue clinic by his wife where he was treated for a dislocated wrist and multiple lacerations . if you check Bahamas press, they have an article on him with pictures of him been attended by the nurses.
