This is the moment that two German shepherds welcomed home their owner after he was deployed for almost a year.

The U.S. soldier, Paul, had been deployed to Afghanistan in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division for nine months before returning to military housing in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

It was the first time the two dogs had been separated from their owner for a long period of time since they were adopted.

Freya, the older dog, had lost most of her eyesight due to an autoimmune condition. While her owner was away, she saw an eye specialist and the dog was on a combination of medication that reversed most of the damage.

Happily, she now has about 90 percent of her vision back.

"These last nine months is the longest time she has spent away from my husband, who she is very attached to," said the filmer.

After being deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months, a soldier sees his two German shepherds for the first time. This video was taken inside of military housing on Fort Bragg just hours after the flight landed back home from overseas.
