Funeral for robotic dog AIBO
SONY’s first AIBO was released in 1999 until 2006 and they have sold 150,000 of them. Then they stopped their support after that. In 2014, a president of A FUN named Nobuyuki Norimatsu first got an order from an elderly woman who was planning to move to a care center and she said she wanted to bring her AIBO but it was broken. So Norimatsu, who used to work for SONY asked his ex-colleagues and got information how to fix it, and did it. After that, he introduced that story on his corporate Website and many AIBO’s owners started contacting them.
At the funeral which was held on 26th April 2018 at Kofuku-ji temple, Isumi, Chiba prefecture, Japan, there were 114 AIBOs from different years and staff wrapped them up very gently after the funeral.
Mr Norimatsu told us that many owners takes AIBO as if it’s a real pet, so to hold this funeral they believe they can take the soul out from broken AIBOs and use their parts to repair another broken AIBOs.
