Footage captures moment man unhooks harness and jumps off cliff in Shaanxi province
A man scaling Huashan mountain in Shaanxi province jumped to his death after unhooking his harness from the safety rope on July 24.
Security footage shows harnessed hikers walking sideways on a narrow plank attached to the face of the cliff, using their hands to grip the chains for balance. In the clip, a man is seen turning around and looking down several times before unclipping his harness and jumping off.
According to news sources, a search mission begun shortly after the incident. However, the man has not been found and his identity remains unconfirmed. The plank he was walking on was 2,000 meters above ground.
Huashan mountain's plank walk has been called one of the world's " most dangerous hike". The popular attraction is near Huayin city, located around 120 kilometers east of Xi'an.
