Passengers on a roller coaster were left stranded in mid-air after an operator stopped the ride in southern China.

Video filmed in the city of Nanchang in Jiangxi Province on May 2 shows 18 passengers stranded on the ride which stopped more than 70 metres in the air.

In another clip, tourists were seen walking down the track slowly.

A tourist said they were stranded in the air for more than 10 minutes and his legs were weak after walking down from more than 70-metre-high track.

According to local reports, an operator spotted the panel of the equipment was abnormal and stopped it to ensure the tourists' safety.

After checking, it was the system protection caused by the voltage fluctuation of the equipment operation panel, which was an emergency protection action.

For safety reasons, the operation of the roller coaster has been suspended and it will be reopened after the subsequent system maintenance.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
