Terrifying footage surfaced from the Chechen town of Gekhi, in southwest Russia, as a gas station caught fire and erupted into a huge explosion last night (September 26).

Accordingly to the filmer, the fire started in a petrol station around 7:00pm. He began filming it and accidentally captured the moment of the first explosion.

The filmer panicked and started running away immediately, escaping injury despite his close proximity to the blast.

However a few minutes later, the fire rose again and triggered a much larger second explosion that completely destroyed the petrol station and an adjacent car park.

Accordingly to a press officer for the MES (Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russian Federation), Timur Tajsunov, several people were injured, however he did not specify the exact number of victims.

Tajsunov also announced: "We received a message about the at 7:13 pm and reacted to it immediately. Our team of 40 people eliminated the fire by 9pm. The number of people who stayed within the petrol station at the moment of the explosion still remains unknown, as well as the reason causing the fire."
