Terrifying high-strength winds left locals with their legs trembling looking at this footbridge - after it was shaken violently like a ''fairground ride''.

The wooden crossing felt the full force of a powerful typhoon that hit the Bukidnon region of the Philippines on September 13.

Footage of the incident shows the 20ft high suspension bridge being tossed around like ''battle ropes'' being shaken at either end by fitness fanatics at the gym.

Villagers are heard saying in the footage: ''Hey look at that! The bridge is alive again. This is so scary, when is it going to get replaced?

''What is happening? This is too much! That's so dangerous! When are we going to get a proper bridge?''

The shaking suspension bridge settled down after a couple of hours once the brunt of the storm had passed.

Resident Mark Anthony said: ''It looked quite spectacular. The bridge was like a fairground ride where people have to stay standing.

''Nobody went on the bridge while it was windy. I would rather wait and be late home than risk walking across in those conditions.

''It made me scared just looking at it. Nature is so powerful.''

Eighteen typhoons have hit the Philippines this year. The latest, Typhoon Yutu, struck earlier this morning causing devastation in the north of the country.

The country is made up of more than 7,000 different islands and many bridges are built to connect remote regions.
