German kayaker Adrian Mattern showed off a risky descent down an infamous river gorge in Chile.

GoPro footage captured on November 4 shows Mattern making his approach to the 80 feet tall waterfall, called Salto Leona, in his kayak.

Mattern then paddles down the steep gorge, nimbly dodging around the rocks, until he falls to a pool at the bottom of the waterfall.

''Salto Leona is a waterfall with a very demanding and dangerous entrance rapid. The slightest mistake can be fatal as the kayaker gets to the lip of the big drop in a matter of seconds. There is zero room for error on this one,'' said Mattern.

The clip was filmed on November 4.

2018 has been an epic year for the professional whitewater kayaker Adrian Mattern from Germany.
To finish off his very impressive season , Mattern had the chance to go to Chile and run a very special waterfall which just recently has been discovered for kayakers with the first descent happening early October.
Salto Leona is a 80-85 foot tall waterfall with a very demanding and dangerous entrance rapid - the slightest mistake can be fatal as the kayaker gets to the lip of the big drop in a matter of seconds. There is zero room for error on this one.
Mattern and his crew scouted the waterfall from above the canyon ridge and decided to drop into the volcanic gorge deep down below where there is no one to help but themselves. The descent itself went as good as it could have been and Adrian Mattern can be seen flying off the falls in control and making it out of the veil very relieved and happy and without any injuries.
Salto Leona is in the National park "Parque Nacional Radal Siete Tazas" which is known for its beautiful waterfalls all around attracting many visitor year after year to the region. Salto Leona is by far the tallest waterfall in the national park which has been kayaked down.
