This bored rhino calf started rubbing his belly on a branch to pretend to be stuck so his mum would come over to help him.

Video of the scene shows Akeno, the calf, running around his enclosure in Chester Zoo with his mum, when he stands over a fallen tree to scratch his stomach. After a short while, Akeno stops but pretends to be stuck, causing his mother to head over and check on him.

“You think he’s just scratching his belly but when it took a bit longer, I was wondering if he was actually stuck. Apparently, I wasn't alone with the thought as mum suddenly came running and had to check for herself if her baby was stuck or not,” says the filmer.

When Akeno the Greater One horned Rhino calf is on top of the thick tree branch, you would think he is just scratching his belly moving forwards and backwards. When it took a bit longer, I was wondering if he was actually stuck. Apparently I wasn't alone with the thought as mum suddenly came running and had to check for herself if her baby was stuck or not. She was just going to give him a push, but Akeno managed to get of the branch by himself, but that's good mums for you, they're always there to help, when you need them in the animal kingdom.

Also known as the greater one-horned rhinoceros and great Indian rhinoceros the baby was born at the Chester Zoo, Cheshire England at around 6pm on 3rd of May 2018. It is a male and they named him Akendo, meaning “beautiful sunrise”. Asha his 11 year old mum, had a 16 month pregnancy and only a 20-minute labour. The dad Beni is separated from these two, presumably for safety reasons.
