A snake was rescued by a team of snake rescuers after a student found it trapped inside a drum of tar in his school in Mullassery in Kerala in southern India.

A student saw a big Russell Viper snake trapped inside a tar drum inside the Mullassery Hindu school campus and informed his principal about it.

The principal later called the snake helpline in order to rescue out the venomous reptile.

In the video, the rescuers can be seen cutting the tin drum using a hand cutter to make the rescue easier. After cutting down the upper portion of the drum a member from the rescue team is seen pouring a packet of oil in the tar smeared reptile to loosen its grip.

After leaving it in the oil or a while, the rescuer can be seen nudging it using a stick and a snake rod to loosen it further from the grip of the sticky tar.

Soon after the reptile is loosened from the grip, a member holds it by its jaw and pulls it out. He can be seen cleaning the entire body of the snake to release any traces of tar stuck on its body.

Later, the rescuers put it inside a cement bag and took it away to be released into the forest.

One of the rescuers said: “The snake was badly stuck in the tar so we had a tough time releasing it. It will be fine in a few days.”

“It may have come to take a shelter inside the drum when it got stuck in the tar. This is a Russell Viper and a deadly snake. They have haematotoxin poison in their venom and can clot your blood in no time if they bite you.”
