A couple of neighborhood children found two orphaned baby squirrels (female & male), and gave me a call asking if I knew how to care for them since I had experience with other orphaned baby animals. With no hesitation I told them that I did. After I picked them up I headed to the PetSmart/Banfield Veteriarian to ask advice on what formula I should put them on and to check their condition, I then headed home with the puppy formula to make bottles for the pups. As I sat down on the couch to feed them, Izzy came right on over to sit by me and investigate what I had in my hand. She quickly realized I not only had a bottle of delicious formula but also a very interesting little creature. I allowed her to investigate Nicki which consisted of lots of sniffing and licking. I fed both pups, and Izzy continued to investigate the pups, and I continued to allow it since no harm was being caused or signs of wanting to harm them. I sat on the couch with the pups in my lap after their feeding for quite awhile and during this time Izzy came over to snuggle up with them on my lap. I slowly moved them off my lap and onto the couch seat, where Izzy cuddled, groomed and pretty much claimed them as her own pups. Izzy at this time was 2 years old and had not had any pups of her own so she was unable to produce milk. I bottle fed the pups and she did the rest. The pups would however nurse off her when they were hungry and that’s how I knew when they needed to be fed. We made an amazing team!
