Footage shows how water cannons brought traffic to a stand still to fire mist into the air as they battle to control extreme air pollution in Bangkok.

The vehicles sounded their sirens then blasted water skywards soaking cars and passers-by - but helping to disperse the thick cloud of killer smog that has been engulfing the Thai capital for two weeks.

Officials have begun spraying water into the air as a response to the pollution and planes also flew over eastern regions dumping water from the sky.

It is believed that the 'artificial rain' will help to disperse the pollutants lingering in the sky.
