I saw a discoloration in the bushes, and I was hoping it was bear, but wasn't sure. As I stared, she finally stepped out. She was south of me, and the wind was east to west that day, and driving hard. Once she saw me, I sat down in the grass, to take any pressure off her. I didnt want he bolting off. She was nosing the air, and licking, but couldn't get any information on me, it was blowing too hard diagonally. Her cubs came out, as I was snapping pictures, and I wasn't sure how low my battery was, so I just shot this short vid, then went back to taking pictures. She was 75' away.
Eventually she led her cubs into the trees, and began walking towards me under the cover of the trees. She made several stops, to look at me through small windows in the trees. She was sniffing, but the wind was blowing too hard. Her last stop was at 25', where she stopped for some time and stared. I didnt think she'd lead her cubs towards me, she was just checking me out. She angled away, and bolted with cubs in tow, leading them away from me and into the woods.
I was driving through in my truck, when I first noticed the discoloration. I coasted past, slowly stopped my truck, parked it, and quietly walked back to where I thought I had seen something, and there they were....
