Two jets of the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran aircraft crashed into each other during an airshow rehearsal in Bengaluru, south India, today (February 19).

Dramatic footage shows both the aircraft crashing down to the ground in Bengaluru.

The impact was so powerful that a massive fire broke out immediately setting both the planes ablaze.

One of the pilots died whilst two others were reported safe as they ejected themselves before the fire broke out in the engine.

Bengaluru has been hosting the aero show since it started in 1996.

Two jets of the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran aircraft gutted in fire during an airshow rehearsal, in Bengaluru’s suburb Yelahanka, on Tuesday. However, both the pilots ejected safely.

The aircraft crashed into each other as soon as they took off. A harrowing footage shows both the aircrafts come crashing down to the ground. The impact was so powerful that a massive fire broke out immediately setting both the planes ablaze, however, both the pilots were reported safe as they ejected themselves before the fire broke out in the engine.
A video of the incident was uploaded on the internet where thick, black plumes of smoke can be seen rising from the airbase. A video on local television channels showed the two jets coming down, possibly during practice.
The rehearsals are going on for a five-day long Aero India show which will be held in the city February 20 and 24. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the five-day biennial event.
The stunning formations by the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) in the Hawk advanced jet trainer, the Sarang team in the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and the daring manoeuvres by its Jaguars, Mirages and MiGs will be the highlights of this aero show.
