Ovčara Memorial Day
Commemorative service at the Ovčara mass grave site, organised by the Association of Widows of the Croatian Homeland War Defenders of Vukovar, marked the 23rd anniversary of the Vukovar hospital massacre.
The war crime took place in 1991, at the end of the Battle of Vukovar, between November 20th and 21st, at Ovčara farm, 5 kilometers southeast of the city of Vukovar. Immediately after the siege of Vukovar, 263 men and 1 woman (including civilians and POWs), were taken prisoners by the Yugoslav People's Army. Mostly patients from Vukovar hospital, they were then left to be massacred at Ovčara by Serb paramilitaries.
Notable victims include Croatian journalist Siniša Glavašević and his technician Branimir Polovina, both civilians and a French volunteer Jean-Michel Nicollier.
