High Winds Cause Patial Building Collapse
Kennedy, who had just returned from vacation, said one of the calls firefighters responded to was at 46 Division St in St Catherines for reports of a partial building collapse. Firefighters found bricks from the second floor of the building, in a back alley between Division and East Main streets, stripped off and on the ground.
Before the high winds hit south Niagara, Kennedy said, Deputy Chief Adam Eckhart decided to add extra staff and activate the fire service's callback. Callbacks see off-duty firefighters called in to man trucks and stations when the regular duty crews are tied up at major incidents.
