The mainland race of the Upland Goose (Chloephaga picta picta) is found from central Chile and Argentina south to Tierra del Fuego. The Upland Goose is the commonest Chloephaga goose species, and is exclusively vegetarian, feeding mainly on short grasses, seed heads and sedges. Upland Geese have also been reported to feed on green seaweeds. This family of Upland Geese comprising the white and black male, brown female and seven goslings were feeding on the road verge at Lake Pehoe in Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia. The female was on alert – watching for danger while her mate and the goslings grazed.
