Car crash ends up parked on a bench.
A speeding driver lost control of his Mercedes car in the early hours of the morning, crashed through an advertising hoarding and a steel waste bin and ended up on top of a street bench.
Landlord of the nearby Criterion pub Tony Campbell said he watched the scenes unfold after being woken up at 6.30am. He claims he saw a man being restrained by three police officers following the early morning smash.
Mr Campbell said: "It happened 6.30am so not many people were about - as you can imagine it was a bit of a shock. We were in bed and just woke us up and the noise was unreal." Mr Campbell claims eye-witnesses have told him the car went across the road, mounted the curb and then ploughed into a set of benches.
He added: "Drivers who saw him said they had to swerve around him otherwise he would have hit them."
