Several drivers ignored a red 'X' closed lane sign and continued to drive along the outsite lane on the M6 just north of Junction 10 on the southbound carriageway after a three vehicle collision left two vehicles in the closed lane.

Six vehicles continued along the closed lane, one, a VW Passat driver drove all the way up to the crashed vehicles and swerved back into the open lane before driving off at speed back into the outside lane once it had passed the incident.

This video was filmed after the AA has warned of Smart Motorway dangers after 2 fatal incidents that occurred on the same Smart Motorway stretch of the M1 in Derbyshire, Police said an 83-year-old's white Volkswagen Crafter may have come to a halt because of a mechanical fault before it was hit by a red Ford Ka, which was then struck by a coach.

Derek Jacobs was killed on the motorway's northbound carriageway in Derbyshire after his van stopped in the first lane.
