Strong winds and rain has effected normal, life in Puri and acros Odisha after strong cyclone Fani hit this morning (3rd May). These visuals are from Puri beach area in which we can see strong winds …Over 12 lakh people have been evacuated to temporary shelters in Odisha as Cyclone Fani, the most severe cyclonic storm since the super cyclone of 1999, made landfall close to the temple town of Puri... and the process will continue till 1 PM. The storm has also affected Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal before moving to Bangladesh. The cyclone has completely thrown normal life out of gear with heavy to very heavy rains lashing the coastal districts. Damaging houses, thousands of trees and electricity poles, uprooting trees, the eye of Fani almost 25 km in diametre is sending off wind velocity of 150 to 175 kmph and even above at some places touching 180 or more. No flight will operate to and from Kolkata Airport from 3pm today to 8am tomorrow... whereas the Bhubaneswar Airport remains shut for the dayThe Navy has deployed 3 naval ships off the coast of odisha - Coast Guard has deployed four ships with two chetak helicopters embarked. Over 4,000 NDRF personnel, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and fire service have been put on high alert.
