This is Abby! Abby was rescued from a high kill shelter in North Carolina. Abby was set for euthanasia due to over crowding. Prior to Abby ending in this shelter she was severely abused and neglected by previous owners.
A worker at the shelter knew she was only one year and a half with a sweet disposition.
The worker felt she had to save Abby and began calling shelters throughout the US in order to save her life. Success, the worker found a shelter in New Jersey. Abby has been saved!
My family and I wanted to adopt a shelter dog, so we visited our local shelter. Abby had been there for three days.
I saw this sweet girl in a concrete kennel, her only toy was her beloved tennis ball. Abby learned she could play fetch with herself by going to the far end of the kennel, nudging the ball with her nose to make it roll away to the opposite ends. Then Abby would retrieve it.
When Abby saw me, she immediately pressed her body against the kennel fence and cried for attention. I fell in love at that moment.
My family applied to adopt her. That’s when she became part of our family. After a day or so of being home with us, I noticeD she would cower when we would pet her. The ver explained she was anticipating pain. Due to her terrible past.
We have a pool, she’s a lab, labs love water. Abby was afraid of it!
I knew I had To do something to raise her self esteem. I placed her on the bodyboard and gently pushed her around the pool so she could fetch her ball from the pool.
One day, Abby learned by shifting her weight back and forth on the board that she could make it move!
