Hundreds of bargain hunters wait outside a shop in Singapore this morning (July 26) after a Huawei phone went on sale for less than half price.

Shoppers flocked to the Chinese firm's flagship store in Tampines Mall, to buy the Y6 Pro model for 54 Singaporean dollars (32GBP) after it was reduced from 137 Singaporean dollars (80GBP).

Some dedicated locals had even been queuing from before sunrise.

Huawei chose the symbolic 54 dollar price as part of a campaign celebrating the 54th anniversary of Singapore national day from July 26 to July 28.

Filmer Amirul Ashraf Iyun said: "I cannot believe my eyes how Huawei just caused so much chaos in Singapore."

The phone sold out immediately after the shop opened. Police were also drafted in to help control the crowds.

Huawei said in a statement posted online: ''Dear fans, we understand there are long queues at each Huawei Concept Store and selected retailers across the island. Due to the overwhelming demand of our NDP S$54 Y6 Pro 2019 offer, we are unable to provide the vast majority of you with this promotion. We are truly sorry to have disappointed those who have shown up your support from early morning. Please be advised not to proceed down to any of our 27 outlets as all units have been sold out.''
