A man from central India has a bizarre hobby of eating glass for fun, and claims to have been doing so for more than 40 years.

Identified as Dayaram Sahu, 60, a lawyer from Dindori in Madhya Pradesh, the man has been indulging in the unusual activity for the last 45 years.

Sahu commented: "I wanted to do something, so I picked up a glass piece and chewed it. It felt good and I was addicted."

Corroborating his claim, video shows Sahu chewing bits of a broken bottle nonchalantly inside his office.

However, the man has urged others to not follow his diet.

"It is not something I'll ask others to follow. It is dangerous for health," Sahu said.

Sahu said his addiction left him craving for glass every day, but, added he has reduced his intake over the years.

"Though it did not damage my internal organs, it has taken a toll on my teeth," Sahu said.

The man said his diet had come as a shock to his wife right after their marriage, but she got used to it eventually.

However, the man has urged others to not follow his diet.

Echoing his sentiment, doctors said eating glass can prove to be fatal.

The chewed pieces can cut through the internal organs once it enters the body.

The same can cause diseases like ulcer and the wound may turn septic, causing an infection.

Sahu, however, is not the only one thriving on a bizarre diet.

Mehmood Butt, a resident of Pakistan's Sindh province was filmed eating wood and fresh leaves.

According to reports, Butt has been following the diet for over two decades and he claims the same keep him healthy.
