Heroic act as local police rescue 5 people trapped during massive fire at shopping complex
In a prompt and valiant operation, Police rescued five individuals trapped in a massive fire that broke out inside a shopping complex. Their swift action prevented a major tragedy and ensured all victims were safely brought to safety.
The incident took place at a shopping complex in Gawari Market, in Gandoh Bhalessa, in Doda district, in northern India's Jammu and Kashmir, on November 11.
Visuals show that massive flames were seen engulfing a shopping complex, while people trapped inside were being rescued through the windows using ropes.
According to reports, a massive fire broke out at Gawari Market, where a police patrol team first noticed the blaze and immediately alerted the Fire and Emergency Services in Gandoh. Responding swiftly, officers from Police Post Changa and Police Station Gandoh, led by the SHO of Gandoh and the in-charge of Changa, rushed to the scene to begin rescue operations.
Demonstrating remarkable bravery and quick thinking, the police personnel managed to rescue five people trapped inside the burning complex, successfully preventing what could have been a devastating tragedy. Fire tenders from both Gandoh and Thathri arrived shortly after and, through a joint and sustained effort, managed to douse the flames and bring the situation under control.
Though there were no casualties, around eight to ten shops were completely destroyed in the blaze, leaving behind heavy losses for local traders. Teams from the police and fire departments are currently assessing the extent of the damage and have begun completing the necessary legal procedures.
Senior Superintendent of Police Doda, Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), praised the quick response of the officers and the effective coordination between the Police and Fire Services. He commended their courage and commitment, noting that their timely intervention not only saved lives but also prevented a far greater disaster. SSP Mehta reaffirmed that Doda Police remain steadfast in their mission to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens, especially during such emergency situations.
