A thick cloud of smog suddenly blanketed Bangkok on Tuesday (October 22). The air pollution moved in from the east before covering the city just after midday.

Visibility was reduced as the cloud of pollution engulfed the capital of Thailand. Locals complained of feeling ''sick and dizzy'' as the smog emerged. One worker said their ''throat and nose were hurting''.

Air pollution readings put the levels of harmful and toxic PM2.5 particles in the air at 175 micrograms per cubic metre - more than triple the safe level of 50.

The country has been suffering with debilitating levels of air pollution all year, with government officials unsure of how to fix the problem.
