This is the terrifying moment a powerful tornado uproots a tree and sweeps debris across homes in Cambodia.

CCTV footage shows strong gusts hurling debris through the air as a tree topples over in Phnom Pen, on Tuesday evening.

Witnesses said nearby electrical boxes sparked, sending flames and sparks onto the road.

A resident was seen stepping outside briefly, seemingly checking the situation, before being blown away and taking shelter in a nearby building in Borey Piphup Thmey Chukva 2, Posenchey district.

Tornadoes are extremely rare in Cambodia due to its tropical climate. Unlike regions such as the central United States, where severe thunderstorms and supercells are common, Cambodia is dominated by monsoons and tropical storms, which rarely create the wind shear needed for tornado formation.

Often linked to violent storms like supercells, tornadoes can cause severe damage alongside heavy rain, strong winds, thunder, and lightning.
