A car plunged into a river after having a collision with another vehicle in eastern China.

In the CCTV clip, shot in the city of Changshu in Jiangsu Province on January 1, a black car suddenly smashed through the guardrails on the roadside and fell into a river after having hitting a passing white car.

Another video shows nearby people, police and firefighters were rescuing the driver who was still trapped in his vehicle.

Finally, the driver was rescued successfully and sent to hospital. He has since woken up and is having further treatment.

The case is under further investigation, reports said.

1月1日中午，常熟碧溪新区碧周路、胡长路口发生一起两车相擦的交通事故。事故造成一辆轿车失控冲入徐六泾河。险情发生后，众多热心市民迅速伸出援手，为闻讯赶来处置的公安、消防、蓝天救援队赢得了时间。
监控画面显示，一辆黑色轿车在通过碧周路胡长路口时，与一辆对向直行的白色轿车发生了碰擦。随即，黑色轿车失去控制，冲入了道路右侧的徐六泾河。轿车入河时击起了数米高的水花，巨大的响声引起了过路市民的注意。很快，热心市民拨打了110报警电话。接警后，交警滨江中队迅速派员赶往现场处置。此时，多位热心市民正全力或拉拽、或托举着随时可能沉没的轿车。
交警刘前与辅警队员见此情景马上下河，接替了两名体力不支的热心市民。此时，轿车司机的神智虽然有些模糊，但他的手始终抓着方向盘。
面对处警队员的呼喊，司机没有明显的反应。
目前，交警部门还在对事故原因作进一步调查。
