A 63-year-old woman is all set to enter the Guinness Book Of World Records due to the unusual number of fingers in both her toes and hands.

The woman had to go through a lot of mental torment and was forced to confine herself to her house as she has an abnormal amount of fingers and toes.

Kumari Nayak, 63, is a resident of Ganjam district in Odisha and has this defect by birth.

The woman has no money to fund her treatment and is hence forced to stay inside her residence.

Nayak said: “I am born with this defect and I couldn’t be treated as we belonged from a poor family.

"It has been 63 years that I am in the condition till today.”

“The residents nearby who are too much into blind faiths believe that I am a witch and keep away from me, or sometimes more visitors come to see my condition but never help.

“I am forced to stay indoors as I am being treated differently which is not a nice way of treatment from my neighbours.”

One of her neighbours who is aware of her condition said in sympathy: “This is a small village and people here are too much into blind faiths, Odisha is a state of blind faiths and hence treat her as a witch.

“I know that she has a medical problem and has nothing to do with what others believe her to be.

"I feel so sorry for her that she cannot even afford to get herself treated.”

After hearing the plight of the woman, the district administration has sprung into action and has given her house, an old-age pension and offered all possible help right from getting her treatment done and spreading an awareness among her neighbours to shed their blind faith.

The administration has also promised that her name would be matriculated for the "Guinness Book Of World Records" for having the highest number of fingers in a human body.

Devendra Suthar from India was confirmed in the year 2014 in Guinness World Record book to have the most fingers and toes - polydactylism - on a living person is 28, Devendra Suthar has 14 fingers and 14 toes.

One of the officials from the administrative department said: “We are aware of her situation and have offered all possible helps.

"We are also educating her neighbours to treat her with love and compassion and that she is not a witch.”
