Firemen remove ring stuck on housewife's finger
Firemen rescued a hapless housewife with rings stuck on her swollen fingers in Thailand.
The woman, named only as 'Miss A', 45, sought help from the Pattaya City Police Station as her digits swelled painfully from the tight jewellery on December 1.
Firefighters were called to the station, where the housewife was said to be delirious as she screamed in agony. She was taken to the Bang Lamung Hospital for a check-up and doctors determined it was safe to cut the rings.
Footage shows firefighters using tools to saw and snip the accessories from the woman's distended ring and pinky fingers, which had dead nails and festering wounds from days of constriction.
After a grueling two hours, the officers removed the last of the rings and medics cleaned the woman's infected injuries.
A doctor said: 'This woman is lucky. If she had arrived later, both her fingers would have had to be amputated.'
Jirasak Nuchlek, of the Sawang Boriboon Foundation Rescue Unit in Pattaya City, said: 'It was found that the woman had the rings stuck to her fingers for a long time, causing severe inflammation. She refused to come to the doctor, but she eventually had to because she was in excruciating pain. She went to ask for help from the police before we were called to help.
'If you wear a ring and cannot take it off, do not let it become inflamed, swollen, or infected. If you wait too long, you risk needing to have your fingers amputated.'
