Worlds largest cycle tour, not just about winning
The Cape Town CYcle Tour is not just about winning. Thousands of participants ride for causes and some ride to grow the sport in the communities which they are from.
The Premier of The Western Cape Allan Winde says more should ride for causes as he is.
Communities are also making an effort to grow the sport in underprivileged communities. The FXTM Velokhaya Cycling team is based in two of the biggest former blacks only areas in south africa, Soweto and Khayelitsha.
Luthando Lennox Kaka from the FXTM team says they have managed to take underprivileged teenagers and grew them to race with elite athletes. Many of the kids come from disadvantaged backgrounds where owning a recreational bicycle is only a dream
