Salvadorians gathered in city squares despite a national quarantine issued by President Nayib Bukele to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Footage taken on March 16 shows hundreds of locals meeting up in a square in San Salvador despite the national quarantine.

The country has no reported cases of the deadly virus.

Despite the national quarantine decreed by the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, in the face of the world emergency due to the Coronavirus pandemic, hundreds of Salvadorans pass through the Historic Center of the city of San Salvador, while others remain congregated in the main public squares, taking a break or talking as regularly happens here on a daily basis.

Although at the moment no confirmed case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has yet been reported, there are more than 1,500 people in quarantine, who entered the country in recent days by area and land.

In an extraordinary session that lasted more than a day, the Salvadoran Congress deputies approved on Saturday night, with 57 votes and 25 against, the Law of Temporary Suspension of Constitutional Rights to Address the Pandemic COVID-19, with what which empowers the President, among other things, to restrict the free movement of citizens in order to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
