A bunch of flatid bugs, a type of planthopper, with Einstein-like "hair" were spotted in a Malaysian forest.

Wildlife photographer Ian Redmond caught this close-up footage of the waxy bug which bears a resemblance to scientist Albert Einstein's hair.

Redmond told Newsflare: "It is the unusual that catches the eye of a wandering naturalist, and when you see what look like bits of fluff running up and down a branch in a rainforest in Borneo, it is time to reach for a hand-lens, and then the video-camera!

"These extraordinary life-forms, with waxy secretions that grow into crazy 'hair' are nymphs of Flatid bugs."

These extraordinary life-forms, with waxy secretions that grow into crazy 'hair' are nymphs of Flatid bugs - that is true bugs in the Order Hemiptera, probably in the genus Phromnia, a kind of plant-hopper (if there's an entomologist in the house, do help out here with a species name). The forest in which they suck sap is on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, Sabah, Northeast Borneo​, #Malaysia - habitat of #orangutans and #elephants. Naturally, the conservation of these mega-fauna attracts public support that leads to their protection, which helps countless smaller species in a healthy ecosystem. This is fortunate, I suppose, as a campaign to 'Save the Flatid Bugs' might not gain as much support as those for apes and eles...
