The 52nd World Custard Pie Championship was held in the village of Coxheath in the English county of Kent on Saturday. The Charlie-Chaplin inspired tournament has been held in the village since 1967 and attracts teams from around the globe.

The Minions were victorious in the sizzling sunshine as crowds once again flocked to Maidstone. More than 2,000 pies were thrown in jest as 30 colourfully-dressed teams did battle for the prestigious crown at Coxheath's village recreation ground.

These included the French Tarts and the Custard Spies, who has crossed the Channel to provide some continental flavour to the day.

"The world is a bit serious at times but today in sunny Kent, gives us the opportunity just to be ourselves. And we had a fantastic day so thank you to everyone," said a contestant from the winning team.

Teams of four score points by throwing pies at members of the opposing team. Only left hand throwing is permitted. Points are awarded by a group of judges.
