Thousands tuned in to watch the traditional pulikali tiger dance which was streamed online due to COVID-19 regulations.

On the fourth day after Onam, a traditional festival, devotees will have their bodies painted as a tiger and perform a dance in front of hundreds.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, the event organisers decided to stream the dance online on September 3.

"puli kali", the famous tiger dance in thrissur district of Kerala as part of Onam celebrations has gone virtual this year. Every year on the fourth day after Onam, Men in costume of Tiger will be seen dancing on the swaraj ground. People will have their bodies painted like that of tiger and will dance and hundreds gather to watch this.Owing to covid 19 pandemic , the "ayyanthole desham puli kali organising committee" has decided to take this virtual . 16 tigers performed for a period of about one hour, 6 of them did not have smart phone and the organizers provided it.
One of the Carpenters who was a member of the committee made stands out of wood to hold the phones and the performance was through zoom.
The committee members say that teaching them to come online through zoom was a big task but they achieved it.The performance was from 3.30 pm.to 4.30 pm.on Thursday (3rd September)
