Hindu people celebrates Holi, the spring festival of colors in India. People of various community gathered around bonfires to pray and perform rituals called Holika Dahan in Beawar, Rajasthan, India, March 28, 2021.
Before burn Holika, Rajasthani people performed traditional folk dance Ghoomer on dhol beats. Men wears traditional clothes and tie ghungroo on legs, dance with wooden sticks and umbrella.
Holi celebrates the killing of Holika in order to save Prahlad, a devotee of God Vishnu and thus Holi gets its name. Holika being consumed by the fire in which she tried to kill her nephew Prahlad. A similar holiday is Holi where people get to gather and often repair broken relationships.
The day after Holika Dahan, Hindu people celebrate Holi with water colours and multi colored powder 'gulal'. Holi festival is considered as an end of winter and arrival of spring. It is also celebrated as victory of good over evil. (Story by Sumit Saraswat)
