Schoolchildren in Gadiwat village in the western Indian state of Maharashtra are learning to speak Japanese due to their fascination in technology and robotics.

The students are learning the language through YouTube as many schools and colleges are closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Many of the teachers have also learnt Japanese in order to teach their pupils.

The government-run school launched the programme in September 2019 and the students began learning by using Google Translate and an app called "Let's Learn Japanese."

This video was filmed on October 13.
