2 Army jawans killed in Terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir India
Two army jawans were killed in a militant attack on the outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday. As per reports, terrorists attacked the Indian Army's Road Opening Party at HMT area, leaving two jawans injured.
The injured security personnel were taken to the Army hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Meanwhile, the entire area has been cordoned off to catch the attackers.
The Inspector-General of Kashmir said the Army soldiers were targeted by three armed militants , who managed to flee after the incident.
"Three militants s started shooting at our Army soldiers. Two jawans were critically injured and reportedly succumbed to injuries. Jaish-e-Mohammed has active movement here, by evening we'll identify the group. Terrorists fled in a car and were armed. Two are probably Pakistani and one local," the top cop said.
"Two soldiers were critically injured and were evacuated to the nearest medical facility. However, they have succumbed to their injuries," the Defence PRO, Srinagar, said separately.
The attack occurred on the 12th anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and ahead of the first phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in the Union Territory.
The DDC elections will take place in Jammu and Kashmir in eight phases between November 28 and December 19. Counting of votes will occur on December 22.
Meanwhile, India is remembering ghastly attacks that began on November 26, 2008, in Mumbai and lasted for four days.
On that fateful day, 10 Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists from Pakistan arrived in Mumbai via sea route and opened indiscriminate fire, claiming 166 lives during a 60-hour siege in the city.
Notably, on November 19, security forces had neutralised four terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in the Nagrota encounter in Jammu and Kashmir. JeM is a Pakistan-based terrorist organisation.
Inspector-General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh, had then said that they were likely conspiring a "big" attack and targeting the DDC polls in the union territory.
