A bakery in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, has honoured late footballing icon Diego Maradona by making a 6-foot-tall cake of the former Napoli player.

The life-sized cake is on display outside the bakery which regularly makes cakes of various celebrities.

Satishranganathan who works at the bakery said: "We have made this statue to pay homage to him and to urge the youth to go down to the field and play without playing on mobile phones and computers."

The cake was made in four days using 60 kilograms of sugar and 270 eggs.

Satishranganathan from the bakery says: Born in a small town in Argentina, Maradona has made the world look back on himself with his tireless efforts and untiring efforts.
Maradona will be remembered if a Tendulkar for cricket, Usain Bolt for the 100-meter dash, and Mike Tyson for boxing are in line. We have made this statue to pay homage to him who died last month and to urge the youth to go down to the field and play without playing on mobile phone and computer. He said that not only physical health but also mental well-being is assured if something in our life is associated with a sport.
